First flight was carried out by the Georgian aviation 17 years ago. Septembers 19 has been established as the professional day of the Georgian Air Force, which celebrates 17th Jubilee of its foundation today. The celebration event took place on Alekseevska helicopter base on Saturday.

The Military air forces and anti-aircraft defence department was created on January, 1992. The Military air forces and the air defence troops were united on 18 august, 1998 and called the Air Forces.

The Defence Minister and the Chief of Joint Staff congratulated the pilots on their professional day. The event will also be attended by military attaches accredited to Georgia. Several servicemen have been awarded for their role in development of Georgian armed forces, increasing its military capacity and honest service.

Participants of the event laid wreaths on the memorial of pilots fallen in fights for territorial integrity of Georgia and commemorated them with a minute of silence. The event finished with demonstration flights.
